Portable Document Format is a form of digital document easily readable on any computer. It used to be that you had to invest in expensive software to create a PDF but now you can get the wonderful Open Office software and create your PDF format Ebook completely free including security features, web-links and jpeg graphics.

OpenOfficec

Open Office is Open source Freeware. Download it for free and use it for free with no limitations at all. It rivals MS Office for features and ease of use. (Enthusiasts say it has a more intuitive menu and tool-bar.) You can download it now from www.openoffice.org

One thing that OpenOffice Write has that MS Word doesn't, is a red Adobe Acrobat button on the toolbar that will, with a single click, turn your word processed document into a fully formatted PDF document. It will take your word processed formatting, your links, text and graphics and incorporate them all into your new Ebook. All you have to do is upload it to your server and start marketing it!

PDF Creation Tips

Choose Simple Fonts

Use Arial as your main font. It's easy to read on screen, readily available on both PCs and Macs, and bundled with practically all printer software. Your main text should be 12pt 14pt in size. Smaller text (not less than 8pt or it really will be unreadable) should be in Verdana which was specially designed to be easily read on a computer screen. Some people like to use Times New Roman but it can be difficult to read on screen in the smaller font sizes.

Headers and Footers

Add Headers and Footers to make your document more professional. Put the Title of your Ebook into the Header and your copyright statement and page numbers into the footer. Use the INSERT Menu to do this. You can find the special Copyright character under INSERT, then, SPECIAL CHARACTER

Stop The Thieves

You can prevent your valuable Ebook being copied, changed or stolen by adding security features just before you create the PDF file. Instead of clicking on the toolbar Red PDF icon, click on FILE on the top menu. Click on EXPORT AS PDF... On the top menu of tabs find SECURITY. Click on it. Tick click the second white box down (Restrict Permissions). Enter a password so that only you will be able to make changes to or copy from your Ebook. When you've finished adding security features click on the EXPORT button to save your newly created, and secure, PDF Ebook.
