Organize Your Ebook Collection

An ebook collection tends to reflect its owner. Some are scattered over the space of a hard drive with no rhyme or reason, and maybe a few are on a flash drive in the bottom of a purse somewhere or an a spare hard drive or CD-ROM. And some are meticulously organized with each book in it own folder, and the folders of ebooks in the same genre are in another folder, and all the folders of that general category are in yet another main folder.

Some ebook collections might fall somewhere in between. One folder for all the ebooks, with only one or two folders inside that to separate fiction from non-fiction or self-help from history, so the digital books are loosely organized but at least all in one place. If your ebook collection is scattered, you can organize it much more quickly than you ever imagined. And if your ebooks are already micro-organized, you won't have to mess with your system of organization.

You won't have to move your ebooks around at all, unless you want to. If you choose good book inventory software that also allows you to list ebooks, you can easily add ebooks to your catalog and never have to worry about reorganizing your hard drive. Sure the software will let you catalog your books, but that doesn't really organize them, does itc
It doesn't let you literally organize them, but it lets you virtually organize them. You can add labels of your choice and organize your ebook collection however you choose. You can sort by fiction and non-fiction, if you're a general category kind of person. You can hyper-sort by genres, level of violence, book length or ever by whether or not you like the cover graphic. How you organize your library is your decision.

But how's that going to help you find an ebook that's on a flash drive somewherec That's probably the only thing that good book inventory software can't do. But you could make a label, let's call it Flash 1 for instance, and attach it to that ebook to indicate it's on flash drive 1 (assuming you have more than one). Or you could leave a comment with that ebook saying the same. Then when you browse through your ebook collection, your note or label will be there telling you where the ebook is. You can do that with your printed books, too, by leaving yourself a note that the book "Get Organized Yesterday" is in the box of knick-knacks under the chair that's covered with books.

Your ebook collection may not take up as much space or look as impressive as your printed book collection, but it's just as valuable to you .And ebooks are surprisingly easy to lose, as anyone who has ever accidentally deleted a folder or file will tell you. Ebook collection capable software, though, can help you keep better track of your digital books by letting you see the collection as a whole after you make a library.

  1. How quickly is Barnes and Noble building their ebook library?
I want hard facts, if possible. I want to buy a Nook, but there are NO books compared to the Amazon Kindle. How quickly will they get new books…(new releases AND old (2007 and below) books)?

    Thanks!

    • e-books are available from several other sources aside from B&N’s e-book library. Just like any other device with a usb cable that you can synch to your laptop, you can open files and add information yourself. Barnes and Noble makes it super easy to download directly and instantly from your reader’s wifi connection, but of course they would – they want you to come to them first! I have a Kindle and have used MobiPocket Creator to convert any file format to make it readable on my Kindle. You can get assistance finding e-books, e-journals, and e-resources from your public library or you can use worldcat.org to search online for e-books.

You’re really lucky to have waited for the Nook, since it can read pdf’s as is you actually have way more options than I do with my Kindle! I think I’ll get the iPhone app for my quick pdf needs.

  2. How do I back up my Sony eBook library?
I would like to back up my Sony eBook library, but I can’t find the book files anywhere on my computer or any information on how to do it. Can someone fill me in?

    • When the Sony is connected to the computer, you can use Windows Explorer to view the files–and just copy the “databasemediabooks” folder into a safe spot on your hard drive.

The files aren’t stored on your computer, only in the Sony Reader, unless you move them.

  3. Can you access public library ebook loans when you don’t live in the local area?
I recently began using my Kobo eReader to access ebook loans from the Newfoundland and Labrador public library (I’m a resident). I’ve found the service very useful, but I’m wondering if there are other public libraries or ebook library services out there that allow access to users who are not residents of the local area?

  4. Is there any ebook library of my type?
Hi friends,I wanted to ask if there is any free ebook library from which I can download ebooks and save them in my library for free and I an also read them any time without internet connection?

    • You can check my review about where you can download ebooks for your ebook reader. – http://reviewsupdates.com/the-ereaders-library-review. I think they offer some free ebooks to download and also with a one time fee lifetime membership to their subscribers. :) It’s nice to choose the one time fee membership because that is a LIFETIME service of all their exclusive ebooks so means that is unlimited lifetime download. Isn’t nice? You can read the benefits why I highly recommend it.

      CHEERS!
